Devon Winter School Games

On Wednesday 7th March 2012 the first Devon Winter School Games will take place in Torbay over two sites, Torbay Leisure Centre and Paignton Community and Sports College, the event will have over 1,200 competitors and 250 young people as volunteers and young officials.

In 2005 Lord Seb Coe, made a promise to the International Olympic Committee that the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics would ‘Inspire a new generation to take part in sport and create a long lasting legacy for Sport in Britain’. To deliver this pledge the government has tasked sporting bodies to create ‘Olympic Legacy’ projects.

One of which is called the ‘School Games’ and is designed to deliver competitive sport to school children all across the country.

Devon Winter School Games has a range of sports including Badminton, Boccia, Cyclo-Cross, Football, Netball, Rugby, Table Tennis and Volleyball.

All participating schools teams have been competing against other local schools in level 2 competitions over the past few months to qualify for the Devon School Games (Level 3).

The day’s event will commence at Torbay Leisure Centre with an opening ceremony at 9.45am and then consist with sporting competition in the following areas:
