Lloyds TSB Foundation
A larger trust, the Lloyds TSB Foundation only funds registered charities and is a good source of funding for salaries. Their policy is to support under funded charities so people, especially disadvantaged or disabled people, can play a bigger part in community life.
Offering funding of up to £10,000 for regional applications, potential applicants need to apply by form which can be obtained by phoning 01823 325825 or downloading a copy of their website, www.lloydstsbfoundation.org.uk.
Bernard Sunley Charitable Trust
This trust has funded a number of sport projects based on capital funding. They will also support revenue and project applications. They will only support registered charities who apply via letter detailing what the charity does, its objectives, an explanation of the need and purpose of the project, costings, size of the grant needed, how much has already been raised and by whom. Your application also needs to be supported with accounts information and your annual report.

The Garfield Weston Foundation
This Foundation offers grants for education, youth, arts, health, environment, community (including sport), religion and welfare. Grants are for mainly capital funding but revenue and non capital projects may be eligible. Applicants do need to have charitable status or be able to receive the payment through a local charity.

Tesco – Sponsorship and Community Schemes
This scheme deals with organisations and projects that deal with either the education and welfare of children aged 0-19 years old or the elderly or disabled community. Tesco run two schemes and priority will be given to areas that have a Tesco store.
1 = The Sponsorship Scheme (for community based groups) – offering amounts up to £150, you apply by letter stating who you are, what you do, how much you need and what the money is for. Send your letter to Sandra Lucas, Tesco Sponsorship Scheme, Tesco Plc, Tesco House, Delamere Road, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, EN8 9SL.
2 = The Community Award Scheme (for registered charities and not for profit organisations) – offering amounts between £1500 - £5000, you apply by letter which requests an application form to register by the end of January for groups working with children and by the end of June for projects to Tesco House, Delamere Road, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, EN8 9SL.
Transco – South West Lattice Fund
This fund offers donations to registered charities and community groups for educational, environmental and community regeneration projects. The fund prefers to support specific items of capital equipment or resources.
The fund offers between £500 to £1500 and you need to apply via letter which will outline your project, how much is needed and exactly what it is needed for. Gemini Radio Charitable Trust
This trust prefers to fund a specific purpose (equipment or project) that will benefit the maximum number of people. Priority is given to organisations working with disabled people, the elderly, children and young adults in the fields of education and training, community services and facilities, health facilities and the arts.

Heavitree Brewery Charitable Trust
This trust supports organisations that are based in Devon. Past awards include Devon at Play and funding to Disability Organisations. The Trust offers funding up to £2000 but mainly awards up to £500.

ITV WESTCOUNTRY
This company awards grants up to £1000 to local community initiatives which involve people participating and learning social, cultural and recreational skills.

Sport Aid
This programme offers funding for individual sports people, particularly those who do not yet qualify under Sport England’s World Class Programme.
On average a national grant is £500 for one year, a regional grant is between £200 and £250.

Co-op Divided Scheme
This scheme awards between £100 to £5000 to projects which fulfil a need in the community which benefits disadvantaged groups and addresses community issues eg. Health, safety, poverty, relief, and environmental issues.

Landfill Tax
This is a tax paid by local landfill operators, which is then distributed to a range of environmental and community projects via environmental bodies. They follow projects that involve reclaiming land, projects that reduce or prevent pollution, projects that provide or maintain public amenities etc.
You usually need to provide 10% private matching money and application is by a short form which can be obtained from the local environmental body SWEET. Their address is: South West England Environmental Trust, Bridge House, 48-52 Baldwin Street, Bristol, Avon, BS1 1QD.

Barclays Spaces for Sport
This scheme invests £30 million into the creation of new community sports spaces, with an emphasis on regeneration. These spaces are selected in partnership with the Football Foundation and Groundwork.

Foundation for Sports and the Arts
The Foundation supports community grass roots sports and arts projects, with a particular emphasis on improving participation by young people. Grants from this Foundation are available for a wide range of activities including equipment costs for arts groups, sports clubs or play areas and costs of sport and art projects.
The Foundation offers funding up to £75,000 but awards are mainly under £40,000 and the application form can be downloaded from www.thefsa.net. For further information please call 0151 259 5505.
Big Lottery Fund
Until 2009, Big Lottery will fund capital and revenue projects that encourage co-ordinated action by people who want to make their communities better places to live. They will support local and regional projects that focus on revitalising communities, improving community relationships, or enhancing local environments, community services and buildings.
Their main aim is to bring people together to create real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.

Mars Refuel Fund
Mars Refuel Fund can give you, your team or club a bit of refuelling. Every month they make a contribution of up to £500 to individuals, teams or clubs.

Sport England
The Government body for sport, they distribute all lottery money for sport. They have an emphasis on increasing participation, particularly in areas where there is inequality.

Caudwell Children Enable Sport Programme
This Programme has been launched to fund adapted sports equipment for gifted and talented disabled children to participate in competitive sport.
Children with sporting potential across the UK can receive donations such as individually adapted sports wheelchairs worth around £3000 and other equipment like hand bike tricycles worth around £1000.

Devon Community Foundation
This foundation gives grants to local good causes across the County, making a real difference to the quality of people’s lives. The foundation has a range of different funds designed for smaller community and voluntary groups working to help local people across Devon. The current funds for grant applications are:
Grassroots Grants: Grants of £250-£5000 are available to voluntary and community groups in Devon which meet the following criteria: Annual income of less than £20,000, in operation for at least 12 months, volunteer led, and address local community needs.
Rural Fund: Grants of up to £500 to help activity for community and voluntary groups tackling disadvantage and isolation specifically in the seven rural districts of Devon.
Small Grants Funds: Grants of up to £500 for community projects and groups which are not eligible for other grant making programmes.

Devon Playing Fields Association
This fund rewards small local sport and play projects in Devon and the fund is provided by Devon County Council and administered by the Community Council of Devon.
They can offer a maximum of £500 or one third of the cost for a single sport or play project or a maximum of £1000 or one third of the cost for a multi-sport project.

Kellogg’s Active Living Fund
Kellogg’s has established the Active Living Fund to help community organisations run projects that get people active.
Unfortunately, funding for 2008 has come to an end, but funding will be available from January 2009.

Awards for All in England
Supported by the Arts Council England, the Big Lottery Fund, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England, they award grants of between £300 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.

Community Amateur Sports Club
The Government’s Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) scheme allows you to pay dramatically reduced business rates and provides support in claiming money back on Gift Aid donations give to your club to help your Club’s finances.
Key benefits include getting 80% mandatory business rate relief, the ability to raise funds from donations under Gift Aid, tax-free income from interest and capital gains and exemption from cooperation tax on trading income and income from property.

The Football Foundation
The largest Sports Charity in the UK, funded by the Premier League, The FA, Sport England and the Government, their mission is to improve facilities, create opportunities and build communities throughout England.
The Football Foundation runs a number of different funding schemes:
FACILTY GRANT: the facilities scheme provides money to develop new or improve facilities for community benefit. These include changing rooms or clubhouses, grass or artificial pitches and multi-use games areas. They can cater for facilities under £20,000 or over £20,000.
COMMUNITY SMALL GRANTS: the foundation provide small grants to projects that use football to increase participation by both players and volunteers by supporting essential costs associated with providing new activity.
GOALPOST SAFETY GRANT: This scheme provides grants to replace unsafe goalposts.
JUNIOR KIT GRANT: This grant provides money for football kit and equipment to under 18 teams and adults with disabilities.

Sport Relief Grants
Sport Relief offers small sports grants for voluntary and community groups. Sport Relief was set up by Comic Relief and BBC Sport to use the power and passion of sport to tackle the exclusion and isolation experienced by the poorest and most disadvantaged communities.
The funds are used to strengthen communities through sport and to provide opportunities for socially disadvantaged or excluded people.
They support community groups who are creating projects that:
· increase participation levels of people who face social exclusion and isolation.
· help people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives regain their self confidence and self esteem.
· encourage people to take part in sporting activities that bring communities together.
Sport Relief Grants range from £250 to £5000 and the funding stream is managed by the Devon Community Foundation (DCF). They look to support projects working across all ages and groups from all corners of the County and will often support part funding projects.

Sports Aid South West
SportsAid South West award grants to youngsters aged between 12 and 18 years from 55 able bodies and 25 disabled sports who are members of national squads.
Grants are distributed to help with costs of travel, training or equipment and range from £250 to £500.
